Your Doggie Diets

Thank you Michele for this ….. much appreciated.

A few months ago, William went to have his teeth cleaned. After having a few removed and some growths cauterised, the vet told me to put him on a soft diet for two weeks to allow his mouth to heal. I cooked for him for those two weeks and he enjoyed the food so much that I decided to keep him on the diet and change my other two to the same food. I usually cook 2 pots at a time, which makes enough food to last me for 8 days. I put the following in each pot:

  •  3 cups of brown rice
  • 1 cup of pearl barley or soup mix (soup mix has pearl barley, split peas, brown & orange lentils)
  • ½ kg of bonemeal or 4 skinless filleted chicken breasts or about ½ kg of ox liver
  • 4 carrots (with the skin on), chopped
  • 1 ½ sweet potatoes, cubed
  • 5 -6 baby marrows, chopped
  • 200g spinach, chopped
  • ½ butternut, peeled & chopped
  • ¼ cup of olive oil

Once it’s all cooked up, I fill 16 – 17 empty 500g butter tubs and freeze them. I take out two tubs per day and share one tub between the three of them in the morning, and the other tub in the evening. They’ve all maintained their weight, but their coats look much glossier than before. Oh, I also add ½ teaspoon of Omega 3 oil to each bowl with the morning meal. They all love it so much that they come and tell me when it’s mealtime!
